?Volunteering at the YMCA is a great experience. I always look forward to making the kids happy and helping them learn to swim. When the kids look up at me, it makes me feel special and valuable, and I know that every day I volunteer I am helping our community.?
Carter Henschel, 14 years old
The YMCA is a charity dedicated to building healthy communities by nurturing the potential of children, teens and young adults, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility. In 2013, more than 60 volunteers contributed nearly 2,000 hours of service to our YMCA. As a volunteer driven organization, the YMCA of North Bay simply could not achieve what it does without the contributions of the many volunteers who share their time, talent and treasure through a variety of roles, at all levels of the organization from hands-on program delivery to strategic operational guidance at the Board of Directors level. More than sharing your time and passion, volunteering with the YMCA is about the satisfaction of knowing you are helping people, building healthy communities and gaining valuable experience that can assist you in your own pursuits. Volunteers contribute their experiences to help mentor children and youth, instruct recreation programs, lead fitness exercises, provide awareness to the community, and much more. Throughout its history, the YMCA has been committed to the concept and practice of volunteer development. It is the intention of the YMCA of North Bay to recruit and train volunteers to meet the challenges facing the YMCA in the years to come. Providing members of the community with the opportunity to volunteer is a fundamental YMCA value. The YMCA believe that volunteers, through their involvement, can grow personally by helping to deliver a YMCA experience that allows people to learn, grow and thrive and by helping people lead healthier and Carter Henschel more productive lives. Volunteers are a critical part of making the YMCA an effective and leading international charity with strong values and a mission to help build stronger kids, families and communities. Committed volunteers at the YMCA serve as important role models and are essential to making the YMCA into an organization that can deliver lasting personal and social change for children and families in the community. YMCA volunteers make a difference as part of a community of people that helps individuals and the community succeed.
